Eurostar and Thalys are merging

    International train operators Eurostar and Thalys are merging.

    This will result in one international operator running trains between London, Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne and Dusseldorf.

    This however is not exciting as it sounds. It’s unlikely we’ll see London -> Germany trains for example.

    Hopefully it will mean better through ticketing etc, but of course we used to have that with the DB London Spezial until DB found themselves cut off from the Eurostar booking engine.

    What’s the betting the new through tickets will be more expensive …….

    I actually welcome this, albeit rather cautiously. As you say, it is unlikely that we will see through trains from London to Germany, but through ticketing is likely to improve. I am reserving judgement until we see the fares.
